Religious EstablishmentsFowler Martin has designed the HVAC and Electrical Services for many Religious Establishments. Some of the more notable projects are listed below. In addition to these works we have surveyed many installations for condition, longevity and asset records.
Project: Winchester Road Methodist Church, London E4. - Electrical Services re-wire. Client: Direct Contract. Works: The existing wiring in the Church halls and meeting rooms were in a poor condition which necessitated a rewire complete with new luminaires. The existing sub-main distribution cables were retained to serve new distribution boards. Existing conduits for the final sub-circuit wiring to lighting and general power accessories were re-used with adaptations and extensions to suit the revised layouts. Duties: Survey/appraisal to determine the extent of the necessary works and subsequently advise the Property Committee of funding required. Producing design drawings and Contract Specification, advising on the appointment of a Contractor and undertaking inspection duties. Costs: £18,900. (Project 049) - 1992
Project: 65 Watford Way, London NW4. Client:: Federation of Synagogues. Works: This 1965 constructed three storey building, recently purchased by the client for their new headquarters, required a total refurbishment/remodelling to provide offices and a new Synagogue. This involved a complete new electrical installation including, power, lighting, security, fire alarms, door entry and telephones. The heating installation was adapted to suit the new layout with new hot water, cold water and mains water distribution systems. Mechanical ventilation was also provided to internal meeting rooms and toilets, with acoustic ventilation units to offices adjacent to a noisy main road. Duties: Surveying premises, feasibility studies, budget costings, scheme proposals, preparation of drawings/specifications, obtaining the competitive tenders and checking the works during installation. Project: 5 Little Cloisters - Westminster Abbey, London SW1. Client: Direct Contract. Works: The existing one pipe LPHW heating distribution, hot water service, cold water service and mains water service were in a poor condition and as the house was to be refurbished a total new installation was recommended and accepted. The existing boiler plant and calorifier which were only a year old were retained and a new two pipe pumped heating circuit with cast iron radiators and hot water service were installed. New cold water storage cisterns were provided together with cold water and mains water distributions. Mechanical ventilation was provided to internal bathrooms, laundry room and kitchen. Duties: Surveying, scheme proposals, budget costings, design and preparation of drawings/specification and checking the works during installation. Costs: £15,500 (Project 015) - 1990
Project: The Choir School - Westminster Abbey, London SW1. Client : Direct Contract. Works: The existing building was provided with 'on-peak' electric heating which was proving very uneconomic in use, also the hot water supply to serve five bathrooms was inadequate. To resolve these problems a gas fired LPHW central heating system with hot water and cold water distribution to existing sanitary fittings was installed. Duties : Surveying, scheme proposals, preparation of scheme drawings and equipment schedule for installation by 'in-house' fitters. Costs : £16,000 (Project 014)
Project: 7 Little Cloisters, Westminster Abbey, London SW1. Client: Direct Contract. Works: The existing cast iron sectional heating boiler with indirect cylinder mounted above were at the end of their economic life and in addition occupied at large and useful space in the kitchen. A new boiler plant was proposed comprising of a high output combination boiler which would provide the heating and hot water requirements in a single unit. Duties: Surveying, scheme proposals, budget costings, provision of scheme drawings and equipment schedule for installation by 'in-house' fitters. Costs: £5000 (Project 012)
Project: Synagogue, Newbury Park, Ilford, Essex. Client: Committee of the South West Essex Reform Synagogue. Works: The provision of a gas fired boiler plant, underfloor heating system, domestic hot and cold water services, ventilation, lighting, power, fire alarm system, public address system, security system, etc. in the new build prayer hall, meeting area and five classrooms extension to an existing building. Duties: Design of all Mechanical and Electrical Services. Inspecting standards of workmanship during installation.
