Fowler Martin has designed the HVAC and Electrical Services for many Housing and Residential projects. Some of the more notable projects are listed below. In addition to these works we have surveyed many installations for condition, longevity and asset records.

 


 

 

Project : 1-21 Southam House, Adair Road, London W10 5PP.

Client : Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Works : The block of flats known as 1-21 Southam House is formed from a block of 9 flats built circa 1930 with a common party wall to 12 flats built circa 1960. The heating services, electrical services, roof finishes and the integrity of the balconies had necessary to maintain acceptable standards of comfort and safety.

A design team headed by MEPK Architects was formed in which we were responsible for the renewal of the self contained heating systems, water services, general power, lighting and lightning protection systems.

Duties : Surveying, preparing feasibility reports, designing the schemes, preparing layout drawings and inspecting the works to completion.

Costs : Mechanical Services £78,000 Electrical Services £30,000

(Project 234) - 1998


 

Project : Bakers' Benevolent Society, Epping, Essex

Client : Direct Contact

Works : The heating, hot water, cold water, power and lighting distribution systems of the Alms Houses, originally installed in 1973, were approaching the end of their reliable life. The renewal of the systems is to be undertaken in a phased programme. Phase 1 of the works includes six bungalows and the main Administration block which comprises the Administration Offices, Kitchen, Laundry, Doctor's Surgery, Chiropodist, Hair Dressers, Toilet Rooms, Dining Hall, Matron's Flat, Board Room, Snooker Room and eight Bed Sitting Rooms.

Duties : Surveying, feasibility study, full design, preparation of layout drawings and specification, preparation of tender documentation and inspection of the works during installation.

Costs : Mechanical Services £150,000 Electrical Services £ 70,000

(Project 214) - 1996


 

Project: 73 Sussex Square, London WC1.

Client : Samisen Ltd

Works : Provision of central heating and unvented domestic hot water to a four storey luxury town house (approx 450 sq.m. floor area).

Duties : Surveying, feasibility report, full design, preparation of layout drawings, preparation of specification, preparation of tender documentation and inspecting the installation in progress.

Costs : £ 37,000


 

Project : 41 Judd Street, WC1

Client : Lotusmount Limited.

Works : Total refurbishment of a hospital building into a student hostel with 108 self contained units (approximate floor area 4000 sq.m.).

Duties : FMA was responsible for designing the new LPHW heating, all piped services, mechanical ventilation, lighting, power, television, fire detection and security systems which also involved surveying the premises, feasibility studies, budget costings and preparation of detailed drawings/specification.

Costs : Electrical Services £190,000.00. Mechanical Services £275,000.00.

(Project 206) - 1994


 

Project : Housing for the Frail and Elderly, Studio Estate, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.

Client : MEPK (Private Architects) for the Aldwyck Housing Association Ltd

Works : This is a new building requiring the installation of complete low pressure hot water heating system with low surface temperature heat emitters, gas fired water heating with blending valves at point of use, cold water service, ventilation, gas, lighting circuits, power circuits, fire alarm system, warden call system, lightning protection, television aerial systems, door entry, etc.

Duties : Design of all Mechanical and Electrical services, preparation of drawings/specifications and checking the standards of workmanship during installation.

Costs : Mechanical Services £225,000 Electrical Services £198,000

(Project 8919) - 1991


 

Project: Carlton Dene Home for the Elderly, London.

Client : ATP Group Partnership (Private Architects) for the London Borough of Westminster.

Works : Various areas of the building were being refurbished and/or remodelled, this involved associated alterations to the heating, hot water, cold water, ventilation, lighting, power circuits, etc.

Duties : Surveying, design, detailing, preparation of drawings and specifications.

Costs : £50,000

Project : 38-46 Grantley Street, London, E1.

Client : MEPK (Private Architect) for Elizabeth Bates Housing Association.

Works : This project involved the complete refurbishment of five, three storey town houses. Three properties were retained as single occupancy and the remaining two converted to a Basement flat with maisonette over. Each dwelling was provided with a self contained central heating system, electrical power and lighting.

Duties : We were reponsible for the design of all Mechanical and Electrical services, preparation of specifications, design drawings, tender documentation, etc. monitoring the works and agreeing the final accounts.

Costs : Mechanical Services £44,500 Electrical Services £33,250

Project : Lisgar Terrace, London W14

Client : MEPK (Private Architects) for the Samuel Lewis Housing Trust

Works : This project involved the refurbishment of two, five storey blocks of flats in Fulham, London W14 including total rewiring, renewal of Landlord's lighting, and the installation of individual heating/hot water systems with tenants in occupation.

Duties : We were responsible for the design of all Mechanical and Electrical services, together with preparation of the services drawings and specifications.

Costs : Mechanical Services £88,000 Electrical Services £53,000

(Project 8607) - 1987


 

Project : Cannon Street Road, London E1 - Phase 2

Client : MEPK (Private Architects) for Samual Lewis Housing Trust.

Works : This project involved the complete refurbishment of four, five storey houses, to provide multiple dwellings in the form of flats and maisonettes. One new property was also constructed as part of the contract. Each dwelling was provided with a self contained central heating system, electrical power and lighting.

Duties : FMA was responsible for the design of all Mechanical and Electrical services, preparation of specifications, design drawings, tender documentation, etc. monitoring the works and agreeing final accounts.

Costs : Mechanical Services £39,800 Electrical Services £27,000

Project: Cannon Street Road, London E1 - Phase 1

Client : MEPK (Private Architects) for Samual Lewis Housing Trust.

Works : This was a new building complex comprising a Doctors' Group Practice on the Ground Floor with three self contained maisonettes occupying the First and Second Floors. A low pressure hot water boiler plant, radiator heating circuit, hot water services, mechanical ventilation, lighting, power circuits, etc. were provided for the Doctors' Group Practice. The maisonettes were provided with self contained central heating systems, electrical power and lighting.

Duties : FMA was responsible for the design of all Mechanical and Electrical services, preparation of specifications, layout drawings, tender documentation, etc. and checking the standards of workmanship during construction.

Costs : Mechanical Services £41,000 Electrical Services £20,000

(Project 8707) - 1987


 

Project : Buttsbury Estate, Ilford, Essex.

Client : London Borough of Redbridge.

Works : The estate of general need housing was heated by warm air units on a group heating scheme served from a central dual fuel boiler plant. The system was proving uneconomic, therefore, the residential blocks were severed from the central boiler plant and each flat provided with individual central heating/domestic hot water systems.

Duties : Design of multiple domestic installations, preparation of drawings/specifications.

Costs : £128,000

Project : Herne Hill Sheltered Housing Unit, Herne Hill, London SE24.

Client : MEPK (Private Architects) for the URC Housing Association.

Works : This was a new building requiring the installation of a complete low pressure hot water heating system, hot water services, cold water services, lighting circuits, power circuits, fire alarm system, call system, aerial systems, door entry system, etc.

Duties : Design of all Mechanical and Electrical services, preparation of drawings/specification and checking the standards of workmanship during installation.

Costs : Mechanical Services £46,000 Electrical Services £34,000
